The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 and no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 and all those on earth. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 Not so, however, those who consciously turn towards God in prayer. 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 and (finally) those who do not miss their ritual - prayers at the prescribed times; 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
