A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif Lam Mim Sad. 1 A DIVINE WRIT has been bestowed from on high upon thee - and let there be no doubt about this in thy heart - in order that thou mayest warn [the erring] thereby, and [thus] admonish the believers: 2 O mankind, follow what has been sent down to you from your Lord, and do not follow other administrators, abandoning this (the Holy Qur’an); very little do you understand. 3 And how many cities have We destroyed, and Our punishment came to them at night or while they were sleeping at noon. 4 And when Our Might fell upon them they only said: 'We have indeed been harmdoers' 5 We will question those to whom Our Message was sent, as We shall question the Messengers. 6 Then most certainly We will relate to them with knowledge, and We were not absent. 7 And true will be the weighing on that Day; and those whose weight [of good deeds] is heavy in the balance - it is they, they who shall attain to a happy state; 8 whereas those whose weight is light in the balance - it is they who will have squandered their own selves by their wilful rejection of Our messages. 9 We have established you in the earth and there appointed for you livelihood; little thanks you show. 10
