The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 So Allah's apostle said to them (Leave alone) Allah's she-camel, and (give) her (to) drink. 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
