He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you attended to him, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, pure. 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
