And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, 'We serve idols, and continue cleaving to them. 71 He said: "Do they hear you, when you call (on them)? 72 'Can they benefit you or harm you' 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 You and your ancient sires. 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 who makes me to die and then revives me, 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And ordain for me a goodly mention among posterity 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 "Forgive my father, for that he is among those astray; 86 And do not disgrace me on the day when they are raised from the graves, 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 and when he alone will be saved who comes to God with a sound heart." 89 And Paradise will be brought close for the pious. 90 and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones 91 It shall be said to them, 'Where is that you were serving 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 By Allah, we have indeed been in an error manifest. 97 when we assigned to you a position equal to that of the Lord of the Universe. 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 Nor any sincere friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
