The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In gardens of delight; 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 and upraised couches. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
