And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so' 74 (Abraham) said, "Do you know that what you worship 75 Ye and your forefathers! 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 “And He will give me death, then resurrect me.” 81 And Who, I ardently hope, will forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment. 82 My Lord, give me Judgment, and join me with the righteous, 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 and make me of those who will inherit the Garden of Bliss, 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected - 87 The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man) 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 104
