The Moon (Al-Qamar)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
THE HOUR HAS come and split is the moon. 1 Whenever they see a miracle, they turn away from it and say, "This is just a powerful magic". 2 And they belied, and they followed their lusts; and every affair cometh to a final goal. 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; 5 Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that the Caller will call (them) to a terrible affair, 6 abasing their eyes, they shall come forth from the tombs as if they were scattered grasshoppers, 7 running with outstretched necks to the Caller. The unbelievers shall say, 'This is a hard day!' 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 Then We opened the gates of heaven unto water torrential, 11 And We made water to flow forth in the land in springs, so the water gathered together according to a measure already ordained. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 And We left the Ark as a Sign. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 17 The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning? 18 Verily We! We sent against them a raging wind on a day of calamity continuous. 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 21 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 22
