The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 a fitting requital, 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 But they belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, and that which Our Prophet (Peace be upon him) brought) completely. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
