The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and its brightness 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 and by the sky and by Him Who made it; 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it; 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
