The Mountain (Al-Toor)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 And by the Book Inscribed. 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 By the roof elevated. 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 there is none to avert it. 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing vain nor any sin. 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” 28
