The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
WAS THERE NOT a time in the life of man when he was not even a mentionable thing? 1 We created man of a sperm-drop, a mingling, and We made him hearing, seeing. 2 Lo! We have shown him the way, whether he be grateful or disbelieving. 3 Lo! We have prepared for disbelievers manacles and carcans and a raging fire. 4 Verily the pious shall drink of a cup whereof the admixture is like unto camphor. 5 a fountain at which the worshipers of Allah drink and make it gush forth abundantly; 6 They fulfill vows and fear a day the evil of which shall be spreading far and wide. 7 And they feed with food, for love of Him, the needy, and the orphan and the captive. 8 (Saying),"We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks. 9 "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that day, and gave them freshness and joy. 11 And shall recompense them for that which they patiently bare with a Garden and silken garment. 12 Reclining therein on raised couches, they shall find therein neither (the severe heat of) the sun nor intense cold. 13 near them shall be its shades, and its clusters hung meekly down, 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver and goblets of crystal, 15 Crystal-clear, made of silver: they will determine the measure thereof (according to their wishes). 16 And therein they shall be given to drink of a cup whereof the admixture will be ginger. 17 A fountain there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ There will circulate among them young boys made eternal. When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls. 19 And when thou lookest them thou shalt behold delight and a dominion magnificent. 20 Their garments will be of fine green silk, and gold embroidery. They will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a pure drink. 21 (And it will be said to them): "Verily, this is a reward for you, and your endeavour has been accepted." 22
