The Mountain (Al-Toor)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount 1 and a Book inscribed 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 And the House frequented, 4 By the roof elevated. 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 there is none to avert it. 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 “Eat and drink with pleasure, a reward for what you used to do.” 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round on them youths appointed to attend them as though they were pearls hidden. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. 26 "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. 27 “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” 28
