The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. THESE ARE MESSAGES of revelation - of a discourse clear in itself and clearly showing the truth. 1 Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah's will) in Islam. 2 Leave them that they may eat and enjoy themselves and (that) hope may beguile them, for they will soon know. 3 We never destroyed a village whose term had not already been decreed. 4 [but remember that] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [it]. 5 And they said, “O you upon whom the Qur’an has been sent, you are indeed insane.” 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before you (O Muhammad SAW) amongst the sects (communities) of old. 10 And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him. 11 This is how We make the mocking* enter the hearts of the guilty. (* The acts of disbelief.) 12 they believe not in it, though the wont of the ancients is already gone. 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 They would surely say: intoxicated have been our sights; aye! we are a people enchanted. 15
