The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and continuous shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
