The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
(On the day) when the sun is made to cease shining, 1 When the stars fall, losing their lustre; 2 when the mountains shall be set moving, 3 And when the pregnant she-camels shall be neglected; 4 And when the wild animals are made to go forth, 5 And when the seas are filled with flame 6 And when the souls are paired 7 questions are asked about the baby girls buried alive, 8 For what sin she was killed? 9 and when the scrolls [of men's deeds] are unfolded, 10 the heavens are unveiled, 11 hell is made to blaze, 12 when Paradise is brought near, 13 Then every soul shall know that which it hath presented. 14 Rather, I swear by the returning 15 the planets that run their course and set, 16 by the night swarming, 17 and brightening morning, 18 Most surely it is the Word of an honored messenger, 19 who is honored in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, 20 (One) to be obeyed, and trustworthy; 21 And your companion is not [at all] mad. 22 in truth he saw him (Gabriel) on the clear horizon, 23 He is not avid of the Unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 Whither then will you go? 26 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, 27 (With profit) to whoever among you wills to go straight: 28 And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation. 29
