Thamud gave the lie to the warnings, 23 For they said: "What! a man! a Solitary one from among ourselves! shall we follow such a one? Truly should we then be straying in mind, and mad! 24 Has the Reminder been cast upon him alone among us? Nay, rather he is an impudent liar.' 25 (We told Salih), "Tomorrow they will know who is the most arrogant liar. 26 for We are [going to] send the she-camel as a trial for them, so watch them and be patient. 27 And declare thou unto them that water hath been divided between them; every drinking shall be by turns. 28 But they called their commander, who seized and hamstrung her. 29 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 30 We sent a single blast against them, and they were reduced to husks of a decayed fence. 31 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 32 The people of Lout (Lot) belied the warnings. 33 We sent a stone-hurtling storm against them, except the family of Lot whom We saved in the early hours of the morning 34 as a blessing from Us: this is how We reward the thankful. 35 And he had already warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warning. 36 And certainly they endeavored to turn him from his guests, but We blinded their eyes; so taste My chastisement and My warning. 37 And indeed, abiding suffering did befall them early on the morrow: 38 'Taste now My chastisement and My warnings!' 39 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 40
