Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 (a half of it, or diminish a little, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs. 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 On that day, the earth and the mountains will be violently shaken, and the mountains will be turned into heaps of moving sand. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
