The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
