Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In a lofty garden, 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 and goblets set forth 14 well-placed cushions, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
