The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 thy robes purify 4 stay away from sins 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
