The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 and made the night a covering, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
