He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And hath fear, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
