In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou folded in garments! 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 half the night, or a little less 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 We are about to reveal to you a mighty word. 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs. 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
