When the messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 He said: verily ye are a people stranger. 62 They answered: "Nay, but we have come unto thee with [the announcement of] something that they [who are given to evil] have always been wont to call in question, 63 "Yet we bring to you the truth, and we are truthful. 64 So set out with your family during a portion of the night and follow behind them and let not anyone among you look back and continue on to where you are commanded." 65 And We made known this decree to him, that the last remnants of those (sinners) should be cut off by the morning. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. 67 He said: Lo! they are my guests. Affront me not! 68 "But fear Allah, and shame me not." 69 They answered: "Have we not forbidden thee [to offer protection] to any kind of people?" 70 Lot exclaimed in exasperation: "If you are bent on doing something, then here are my daughters." 71 By your life, (O Prophet), they went about blindly stumbling in their intoxication. 72 At sunrise a dreadful Shout seized them. 73 We turned the town upside down and rained upon them stones of clay. 74 Surely in this are signs for those who examine. 75 And lo! it is upon a road still uneffaced. 76 Verily, herein lies a message indeed for all who believe [in God]. 77 The dwellers of the Wood (near Midian) were also wicked. 78 and We took vengeance on them.
