Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ayn. Sad. 1 The mention of thy Lord's mercy unto His servant Zachariah; 2 when he called upon his Lord in secret, 3 He submitted, “O my Lord – my bones have become weak and old age shines forth from my head, and O my Lord, I have never been disappointed in my prayer to you.” 4 I am afraid of what my kinsmen will do after (my death) and my wife is barren. Lord, grant me a son 5 Who will be heir to me, and heir to the house of Jacob; and make him obedient to You, O Lord." 6 We answered his prayers with the glad news of the birth of a son by the name of John and told him, "We have never given such a name to anyone else." 7 He said, "Lord, how can I have a son? My wife is barren and I have reached an extremely old age". 8 Allah said: even so! Thy Lord saith: it is unto Me easy, whereas surely I created thee afore when thou wast not aught. 9 Zachariah asked, " Lord, show me evidence (if this is a heavenly news)." The Lord said, "The evidence for it is that you must not speak (to any mortal) though you are in good health for three nights (and days)." 10 So he went forth to his people from his place of worship, then he made known to them that they should glorify (Allah) morning and evening. 11 (And it was said unto his son): O John! Hold fast the Scripture. And we gave him wisdom when a child, 12 And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing. 13 honoring his parents, being neither arrogant nor rebellious. 14 And Peace be unto him the day he was born and the day he dieth and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
