Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 And cups put in place 14 well-placed cushions, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
