And recite to them the tiding of Abraham 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, 'We serve idols, and continue cleaving to them. 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They said, 'Nay, but we found our fathers so doing.' 74 He said: "Do you observe that which you have been worshipping, 75 you and your forefathers -- 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 And ordain for me a goodly mention among posterity 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 And the Fierce Fire shall be made apparent unto the seduced ones. 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 There they will quarrel with one another and the erring ones will say (to their deities): 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 So none we have as intercessors. 100 nor a loving friend. 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
