Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 and goblets laid out, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
