The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount, 1 by the book (Torah) written 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 Those who in wading sport themselves. 12 The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith – We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). 25 Saying, “Indeed before this, we were in our houses, worried.” 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
