Jonah, too, was one of the Messengers. 139 He ran away to the laden ship, 140 and cast lots, and he was among the losers (of the lots that were cast). 141 Then he was swallowed by a large fish as he was worthy of blame. 142 And had he not been one of those who glorify (Allah) 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on to the vacant surface of the earth while he was sick. 145 And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine. 146 And We sent him towards a hundred thousand people, in fact more. 147 They believed in him so We granted them enjoyment for an appointed time. 148 AND NOW ask them to enlighten thee: Has thy Sustainer daughters, whereas they would have [only] sons? 149 Did We create the angels as females the while they witnessed?” 150 Is it not of their own calumny that they say, 151 "Allah has begotten children"? but they are liars! 152 Did He choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you form your judgement? 154 Will ye not then reflect? 155 Or, do you have a clear authority? 156 “Then bring forth your Book, if you are truthful!” 157 They have set up a kinship between Him and the jinn; and the jinn know that they shall be arraigned. 158 Exalted is Allah above what they describe, 159 all of them except the chosen servants of Allah. 160 So neither you nor those you worship 161 you shall not tempt any against Him 162 Except one who is (destined) to burn in Hell. 163 [The angels say], "There is not among us any except that he has a known position. 164 we are the rangers, 165 And we are they who exalt (Allah)' 166 And they surely were wont to say: 167 "If only we had a tradition [to this effect] from our forebears, 168 We would be single-minded slaves of Allah. 169 Yet (now that it is come) they disbelieve therein; but they will come to know. 170 Our word had already been given before to Our votaries, the apostles, -- 171 That verily they! they shall be made triumphant. 172 And that certainly Our armies will be victorious. 173 So turn thou from them for a while, 174 Watch them: they will soon see. 175 Do they seek to hasten on Our Torment? 176 When it descends on their courtyards, how terrible that morning will be for those who were warned! 177 Leave them alone for a while, 178 And see, for they are going to see. 179 Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe. 180 And peace upon the messengers. 181 And praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. 182
