Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I CALL TO witness the dawn 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 Enter then My garden." 30
