AND, BEHOLD, Jonah was indeed one of Our message-bearers 139 He ran away to the laden ship, 140 Then lots were drawn and he became of those who were pushed into the sea. 141 And the fish swallowed him while he was blameworthy; 142 But had it not been that he was of those who glorify (Us), 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish until the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ But We cast him, upon the shore, and he was ill, 145 And We made a gourd tree grow over him. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand (people) or even more. 147 And they believed, whrefore We let them enjoy life for a season. 148 So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons? 149 Or that have We created the angels as females, while they were present? 150 Now surely it is of their own lie that they say: 151 "God has begotten (children)?" They are liars indeed! 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 Woe to you! How terrible is your Judgment. 154 Will you then not take heed? 155 “Or do you have some clear proof?” 156 Bring your Book, if you speak truly! 157 And they have invented a kinship between Him and the jinns, but the jinns know well that they have indeed to appear (before Him) (i.e. they will be brought for accounts). 158 limitless is God in His glory, above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 159 Not (so do) the Servants of Allah, sincere and devoted. 160 So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship, 161 Cannot lead astray [turn away from Him (Allah) anyone of the believers], 162 unless it be such as rushes towards the blazing fire [of his own accord]! 163 None of us is there, but has a known station; 164 and, verily, we too are ranged [before Him in worship]; 165 we are they that give glory. 166 Even though they (unbelievers) say, 167 'If only we had had a Reminder from the ancients, 168 We would have been the chosen servants of Allah." 169 But (now that the Qur'an has come), they reject it: But soon will they know! 170 And assuredly Our word hath already gone forth Our bondmen, the sent ones: 171 That undoubtedly, only they will be helped. 172 And that certainly Our armies will be victorious. 173 So turn thou from them for a while, 174 and watch them. They, too, will watch. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 When it descends upon their courtyards, evil will be the morning of those forewarned. 177 And leave them for a time. 178 And (then) see, for they too shall see. 179 Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of Honor, above what they describe. 180 Peace be with the Messengers (of God). 181 And all praise unto Allah the Lord of the worlds. 182
