The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
