The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has there come on man a while of time when he was a thing unremembered? 1 We created man of a sperm-drop, a mingling, and We made him hearing, seeing. 2 We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). 3 We have indeed kept prepared chains, and shackles and a blazing fire for the disbelievers. 4 Surely the righteous shall drink of a cup the admixture of which is camphor 5 a fountain at which the worshipers of Allah drink and make it gush forth abundantly; 6 They fulfil their vows, and fear a day whose evil is upon the wing; 7 they give food, for the love of Him, to the needy, the orphan, the captive: 8 [saying, in their hearts,] "We feed you for the sake of God alone: we desire no recompense from you, nor thanks: 9 we fear from our Lord a Day that shall be long and distressful.” 10 Therefore Allah will guard them from the evil of that day and cause them to meet with ease and happiness; 11 and recompense them for their patience with a Garden, and robes of silk. 12 In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, 13 And its shade will cover them, and its fruit clusters brought down low for them. 14 Vessels of silver and goblets of pure crystal will be passed round among them 15 crystal-like, [but] of silver - the measure whereof they alone will determine. 16 and they will be given a cup to drink flavoured with ginger, 17 Which is a spring in Paradise called Salsabeel. 18 ۞ They will be served by immortal youths who look like scattered pearls. 19 And when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion. 20 Upon them shall be green garments of silk and brocade; they are adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall give them to drink a pure draught. 21 'See, this is your recompense, your striving is thanked' 22
