The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 and the sea that is full 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
