In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no Allah save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender - 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 BEHOLD, [O men,] We have sent unto you an apostle who shall bear witness to the truth before you, even as We sent an apostle unto Pharaoh: 15 but Pharaoh rebelled against the Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 How then, if ye disbelieve, shall ye escape, on a Day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
