He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you attended to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
