They will ask you about ThulKarnain (the pious and chosen). Say: 'I will recite to you something of his story. 83 Lo! We made him strong in the land and gave him unto every thing a road. 84 One (such) way he followed, 85 Until when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he perceived it setting in a miry spring, and he found beside it a nation. We said: Zul Qarnian! either chastise them or take in respect of them the way of kindness. 86 He said: As to him who is unjust, we will chastise him, then shall he be returned to his Lord, and He will chastise him with an exemplary chastisement: 87 As for those who believe and do good, they will receive virtuous rewards and We will tell them to do only what they can. 88 Then he followed a road 89 Until, when he came to the rising place of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We (Allah) had provided no shelter against the sun. 90 Thus it was. And surely We have encompassed all that was with him in knowledge 91 Then followed he (another) way, 92 Till he reached a place between two mountains, and found this side of it a people who understood but little of what was spoken. 93 They said: O Dhu'l-Qarneyn! Lo! Gog and Magog are spoiling the land. So may we pay thee tribute on condition that thou set a barrier between us and them? 94 He replied, "The power that my Lord has granted me is better (than your tax). Help me with your man-power and I shall construct a barrier between you and Gog and Magog. 95 “Give me sheets of iron”; until when he had raised the wall equal to the edge of the two mountains, he said, “Blow”; to the extent that he made it ablaze – he said, “Bring me molten copper to pour upon it.” 96 Thus (Gog and Magog) could neither climb over it nor dig a hole through (the rampart). 97 He said, “This is the mercy of my Lord; then when the promise of my Lord arrives, He will blow it to bits; and my Lord’s promise is true.” 98 ۞ On that day, We will let them surge on one another, and the Horn shall be blown, and We will gather them all together. 99 And on that Day We shall present Hell to the disbelievers, plain to view, 100 whose eyes had become blind against My admonition and who were utterly disinclined to hear it. 101
