The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 purify your garments; 4 and defilement flee! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
