A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif-Laam-Meem-Saad. (Alphabets of the Arabic language; Allah and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 A DIVINE WRIT has been bestowed from on high upon thee - and let there be no doubt about this in thy heart - in order that thou mayest warn [the erring] thereby, and [thus] admonish the believers: 2 (Saying): Follow that which is sent down unto you from your Lord, and follow no protecting friends beside Him. Little do ye recollect! 3 How many cities have We destroyed! Our wrath struck their people at night or during their midday siesta. 4 And when Our Might fell upon them they only said: 'We have indeed been harmdoers' 5 (On the Day of Reckoning) We shall question the people to whom We had sent Our apostles, (if they followed their teachings), and will question the apostles. 6 And verily, We shall recount their whole story with knowledge, for We were never absent (at any time or place). 7 And true will be the weighing on that Day; and those whose weight [of good deeds] is heavy in the balance - it is they, they who shall attain to a happy state; 8 and he whose scales are light -- they have lost their soul for wronging Our signs. 9 We established you in the land and provided you with a means of livelihood there: yet you are seldom thankful. 10
