And We sent no Prophet unto any town (and they denied him), but We seized its people with suffering from extreme poverty (or loss in wealth) and loss of health and calamities, so that they might humiliate themselves (and repent to Allah). 94 and then We changed their hardship into ease until they grew affluent and said, "Our fathers had also experienced adversity and prosperity," then We seized them suddenly, unawares. 95 Yet had the peoples of the cities believed and been godfearing, We would have opened upon them blessings from heaven and earth; but they cried lies, and so We seized them for what they earned. 96 Then, did the people of the cities feel secure from Our punishment coming to them at night while they were asleep? 97 Or did the people of the cities feel secure from Our punishment coming to them in the morning while they were at play? 98 Can they remain secure against the plan of God? Only they feel secure against the plan of God who are certain of being ruined. 99
