The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of a clear Book, the Quran. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 Leave them alone, to enjoy (the good things of this life) and to please themselves: let (false) hope amuse them: soon will knowledge (undeceive them). 3 And every dwelling that We destroyed, had a known decree for it. 4 No people can hasten or delay the term already fixed for them. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 Why do you not bring down angels upon us if you are indeed truthful?" 7 We send not down the angels, save with truth; 8 It is We who sent down the Koran, and We watch over it. 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 We place in the hearts of sinners (disbelief). 12 They will not believe in it, though they have before them the example of former peoples, 13 And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it, 14 They would surely say: intoxicated have been our sights; aye! we are a people enchanted. 15
