The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 Oft times would those who disbelieve fain that they had been Muslims. 2 Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know. 3 We have never destroyed a township without a definite decree having been issued; 4 No community precedeth the term thereof nor doth it fall behind. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the Reminder is revealed, lo! thou art indeed a madman! 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then they will not be reprieved. 8 We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). 9 We verily sent (messengers) before thee among the factions of the men of old. 10 But never once an apostle came to them at whom they did not scoff. 11 This is how We cause the hearts of the guilty ones to behave. 12 So, they will not believe in it: The example of former people is there. 13 And if We open for them a gate in the heavens, to ascend it through the day – 14 yet would they say, 'Our eyes have been dazzled; nay, we are a people bewitched!' 15
