Surely We brought man into being out of dry ringing clay which was wrought from black mud, 26 while We had brought the jinn into being before out of blazing fire. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 and when I have formed him fully and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down before him in prostration! 29 Therefore all the angels, each and every one of them, fell prostrate. 30 except Iblis; he refused to join those who prostrated. 31 Allah said: O Iblis! what aileth thou that thou art not with the prostrates? 32 [Iblis] replied: "It is not for me to prostrate myself before mortal man whom Thou hast created out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted!" 33 Allah said: then get thee forth therefrom; verily thou art one damned. 34 “And indeed you are accursed till the Day of Judgement.” 35 He said: My Lord! then respite me till the time when they are raised. 36 He said: So surely you are of the respited ones 37 for an appointed time." 38 He said: my Lord! because Thou hast led me to err I will surely make things fairseeming unto them on the earth and will surely seduce them all: 39 But not such of them as are Thy bondmen single-hearted. 40 Said Allah, “This path* leads straight towards Me.” (* The path of the chosen bondmen.) 41 Surely, you shall have no power over My true servants, except those misguided ones who choose to follow you. 42 And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 It has seven gates; for each gate is a portion assigned from them. 44
