Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 And the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
