AND, INDEED, We have created man out of sounding clay, out of dark-slime transmuted 26 and the jinn We had created before from flaming fire. 27 And lo! Thy Sustainer said unto the angels: "Behold, I am about to create mortal man out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted; 28 “Therefore when I have properly fashioned him and breathed into him a chosen noble soul from Myself, fall down before him in prostration.” 29 So, the angels - all of them - fell down in prostration, 30 except Iblis who refused to join with the others in prostration. 31 (Allah) said: "O Iblis (Satan)! What is your reason for not being among the prostrators?" 32 He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered! 33 The Lord said: "Then get out of here; you are rejected, 34 And verily on thee shall be the curse till the Day of Requital. 35 Satan said, "O my Lord! Grant me respite till the Day of Resurrection." 36 He said: So surely you are of the respited ones 37 till that Appointed Day." 38 He said: My Lord! Because Thou hast sent me astray, I verily shall adorn the path of error for them in the earth, and shall mislead them every one, 39 except those of Your servants whom You have singled out for Yourself." 40 Said He, 'This is for Me a straight path: 41 Indeed, My servants - no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators. 42 And lo! for all such, hell will be the promised place. 43 It hath seven gates, and each gate hath an appointed portion. 44
