Man We fashioned from fermented clay dried tingling hard, 26 And the Jinn race, We had created before, from the fire of a scorching wind. 27 And lo! Thy Sustainer said unto the angels: "Behold, I am about to create mortal man out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted; 28 and when I have formed him fully and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down before him in prostration! 29 All the angels prostrated themselves, 30 save Iblis; he refused to be among those bowing. 31 Allah said: O Iblis! what aileth thou that thou art not with the prostrates? 32 [Iblis] replied: "It is not for me to prostrate myself before mortal man whom Thou hast created out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted!" 33 (Allah) said: 'Begone, you are accursed! 34 and the curse shall be on you till the Day of Judgement!" 35 He said, “My Lord! Grant me respite till the day when they will all be raised.” 36 The Lord said, "Your request is granted 37 "Till the Day of the Time appointed." 38 He said: my Lord! because Thou hast led me to err I will surely make things fairseeming unto them on the earth and will surely seduce them all: 39 Except the chosen ones among Your creatures." 40 He said: This is a right course incumbent upon Me: 41 and you have no authority over My servants except the erring ones who follow you. 42 Surely Hell is the promised place for all of them." 43 Seven gates it has, and unto each gate a set portion of them belongs.' 44
