And certainly We created man of clay that gives forth sound, of black mud fashioned in shape. 26 and before him We created the jinn from smokeless fire. 27 And lo! Thy Sustainer said unto the angels: "Behold, I am about to create mortal man out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted; 28 and when I have formed him fully and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down before him in prostration! 29 All the angels prostrated before Adam 30 save Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated themselves. 31 Said Allah, “O Iblis! What happened to you that you stayed apart from those who prostrated?” 32 He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud." 33 He said: Then go thou forth from hence, for lo! thou art outcast. 34 And lo! the curse shall be upon thee till the Day of Judgment. 35 Said he, 'My Lord, respite me till the day they shall be raised.' 36 He said: So surely you are of the respited ones 37 unto the day of a known time.' 38 He said, "My Lord, since You have let me go astray. I shall make the path of error seem alluring to them on the earth and shall mislead them all, 39 Save such of them as are Thy perfectly devoted slaves. 40 Said Allah, “This path* leads straight towards Me.” (* The path of the chosen bondmen.) 41 over My servants thou shalt have no authority, except those that follow thee, 42 Surely, Hell is the place to which they are destined, 43 Seven gates it has, and unto each gate a set portion of them belongs.' 44
