And when the envoys came to the family of Lot, 61 he said, 'Surely you are a people unknown to me!' 62 They answered: "Nay, but we have come unto thee with [the announcement of] something that they [who are given to evil] have always been wont to call in question, 63 "We have brought to thee that which is inevitably due, and assuredly we tell the truth. 64 So set out thou with thy house hold in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs, and let not one of you look back, and pass whither ye are commanded. 65 We issued this command to him, for they were going to be destroyed in the morning. 66 The people of the town rejoicingly 67 [Lot] said, "Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me. 68 Fear Allah and do not disgrace me' 69 They said: forbade we not thee against the worlds? 70 [Lout (Lot)] said: "These (the girls of the nation) are my daughters (to marry lawfully), if you must act (so)." 71 Verily, by thy life (O Prophet), in their wild intoxication, they wander in distraction, to and fro. 72 and thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at sunrise. 73 And We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay. 74 Verily, in all this there are messages indeed for those who can read the signs: 75 The place (where this occurred) lies along a known route. 76 surely in that is a sign for believers. 77 The dwellers of the Wood (near Midian) were also wicked. 78 So We took vengeance on them. Both are still there on the highway, plain for all to see. 79
